Q: What is wrong with my 1994 jeep wrangler transmission? It grinds when you try an put it in gear.?
I have a 1994 Wrangler and when I shift from 1st to 2nd it grinds almost every time. When I go to put it in reverse sometimes it wont go in. Is it the clutch or something else? It has a AX5 with 4cyl 2.5 engine.
A: It doesnt sound like the clutch to me. If it were, you would have the grinding into every gear. It sounds like the synchro rings. If you have changed the fluid in the transmission, many of the trans fluids have too high of a sulfur content and eat away the softer brass of the synchronizing rings. unfortunately the only fix is rebuild or replace the transmission. I had to do the same with mine. If you do it and need to find a new one, the best deal I found was from phoenix hard parts. If you do go that route and get it fixed, use a good trans fluid like redline mt-90.
Q: How difficult is it to replace a real differential on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
I just purchased a 1994 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 that looks great but nees work...previous owner says the rear differential is shot...and sure enough, when trying to move the vehicle it makes a horrible loud noise and feels like the emergency brakes are on. Anyhow, I'm guessing I'll just swap out the bad differential for a new one...anyone know how difficult this is? I've replaced two transmissions but have no experience at all with differentials.
A: Are you talking about the whole assembly or the guts. Either way. If you can replace a tranny, then you can do the assembly. If it is just the guts. The actual replacement is not hard, the setup of the gears can be. If replacing the gears. Stick with Dana or Motive Gear Gears. DO NOT use Richmond. As a former sales rep for a company that specialized in exactly what you are asking. I lost more customers due either Richmond Gears or GM being garbage.
Q: What can I do to fix my clutch on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler and when it is put into gear and let go of the clutch it wont drive forward. or reverse.
I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler and when it is put into gear and let go of; the clutch seems to fail to grasp the gear and the Jeep wont drive forw. & rev.
A: Not often that a cluch goes out completly/suddenly...
Was there any warning? (high engine revs with little movement)
First check... Is the transfer case in neutral?
Does the engine lug down at all?
Do you hear any grinding from the tranny?
Can you shift all the way into ALL the gears or does the stick stop part way?
Is the driveline still attached.
Q: Will jeep full steel doors work with soft top supertop an a 1994 YJ Jeep Wrangler?
I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler witha soft top supertop. Will a set of full hard doors work with this top?
A: Two dimes is right. It will work with a small gap at the top back corner of the door. The door pins are the same, the lower door itself is identical and even the latch is a direct fit.
Check out this link for Best Top Advisor through Quadratec. It will show you a ton of options you have should you care to replace your soft top should you want a new soft top that actually fits. Best Top does sell a soft top made for YJ's with Full Doors. http://www.quadratec.com/advisor/jeep_soft_top/
The small gap isn't that big of a deal, but if a Wrangler was my only vehicle I wouldn't want to get into a wet Jeep just because I have full doors.
If you don't mind the half doors, but tired of zipping windows, then half door sliders are an option too. They fit on the factory half door and will mate to the top the way they should, but they have a glass sliding window instead of dealing with zippers. Check out the link. http://www.zaib4x4.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=2516
Given how pricey the glass slider is, you may want to think about either buying a used hardtop to work with the full doors (winter use) or buying a soft top that fits properly with the full doors. The fliptop is way cool. It's a softtop that is like a sunroof. http://www.quadratec.com/products/11014_1XX_PG.htm
Q: How do i change a heater core in a 1994 Jeep Wrangler with a 2.5 Engine?
I just bought a 94 wrangler yj and noticed the heater core is leaking antifreeze in the floor board. How do I change the heater core?
A: Pop the hood
look for 2 hoses going from the engine to the fire wall. Those are the heater hoses. Unhook them.
Open the passenger side door
Look under the dash. That little radiator looking thing is the heater core.
Unbolt it and unhook the control wires if needed
pull it out
buy a new one
install it
hook up heater lines
add coolant
Q: I have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler with a slight body lift, how do I return the body to it's stock height?
My Jeep has a slight body lift, it was like that when I bought it. Unfortunately it makes for a very rattlely ride and a slight sag on the passenger side. I want to return it to stock height for the body and maybe lift the suspension instead, how do I remove the body lift?
A: You have 7 body mounts. 3 under each door. 2 in the rear over the gas tank and 1 in front under the grill/core support.
you will need a floor jack and an air ratchet. You'll work one side at a time. You will need to lower your gas tank, loosen the driver side then lift the body. Do the same thing on the passenger side. Read the link below for LOTS more detail.
What I recommend is to replace unwanted body lift with a Daystar 1" polyurethane body-lift/cab mount bushing kit. I have one. It's completely stable & it won't rot away like a factory bushing kit & NO RATTLES:) The kit comes with easy to read instruction.
Now you can upgrade the springs. I like my OME suspension.
Good Luck
Q: How do you change the clutch fluid on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
I see the place to put it in but I cannot find a plug to drain it. I do not have the owner's manual.
A: I belive you have to pop off inspection plate around bellhousing.. You will have to bleed it out... Good idea,, do it now. before who knows what happens
Q: My 1994 jeep wrangler door wont open or unlock?
For some reason my door wont open from the inside or out i have tried to unlock it but the lock switch flips over easily and my key does not unlock it from the outside and it is stuck locked. Can somone please give me some info on how to fix it?
A: Sounds like the push rod has fell off. You need to take the door pannel off and take a look on the inside. Once you get it off you can try to unlock it and see where it is disconnected at. Just hook it back up and you should be good to go!
Q: Will a manual transmission from a 1998 jeep wrangler fit a 1994 jeep wrangler?
A: As long as they both have the same type motors (4.0L inline 6 for example) then it will fit.
Jeep changed the motor/tranny they were using in 1992 and it stayed the same until the recent redesign on the 2008 models.
Q: Where is the fuel filter location on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
A: The fuel filter is located on the driver's side frame rail, just in front of the rear wheel well. Be aware, the fuel system is pressurized. To relieve the pressure, locate the Schrader valve (looks like a air valve for a tire) on the fuel rail on the engine, (get some rags to catch the fuel) and depress the center pin of the Schrader valve until the fuel stops skeeting out.
Happy Trails!
Q: where is the headlight relay on a 1994 Jeep Wrangler located?
A: I can't find a relay in the book, only a fuse. The fuse is located in the power distribution box that sits in front of the battery. The location should be printed in the inside of the box cover.
Q: 1994 Jeep Wrangler automatic transmission?
I received a quote of $1800.00 to rebuild my 94 Wrangler transmission. Does this seem REALLY high?
I live in Hawaii, so I know that a portion is shipping. But the air shipping for a new transmission is about $350.
A: i own 2 jeeps both 94' and i only use them to off road and I have blown a tranny or 2 and I can tell you, you can buy a new one for that price. I just replaced the engine in one and it only cost $1700 i would shop around.
Q: I'm thinking about buying a 1994 Jeep Wrangler?
Anyone have experiance with one?
A: JS must stand for Just Stupid.
We own a 1991 Wrangler YJ w/the 4.0 straight six w/218K miles. It had 192k miles on it before we had it rebuilt. We are the 2nd owners, bought in 1995 and put another 100k miles on it before the rebuild. I'd never think about getting rid of it. We have driven it across the U.S and back (Ca - RI). It is my every day driver. Would I recommend driving it across country....not so much, but its fine as a everyday driver just as long as your not looking for a road hugging, lighting fast daily driver.
My uncle has a 93 YJ 4.0. He is the original owner. This is his daily driver. It has 380K miles on it. Has NEVER had a problem with it.
All I can say is take care of your Jeep and it will take care of you.
FYI....The Jeep Wrangler holds its value and has a higher resale than most American made autos.
See link below for my everyday driver.
Q: how do you change the side front blinker on a 1994 jeep wrangler?
A: Get a #2 phillips screwdriver, remove the lense, hold bulb and twist lense 1/4 turn, remove bulb. Take bulb to auto parts store and match it up.
Q: Can I bypass the auto shutdown on my 1994 jeep wrangler 4 cyl.?
I think I have a ground problem and the auto shutdown relay cilcks when the jeep has been sitting and cooled down. I have checked all the grounds that i can find, and it still does it. after a while of sitting with the key on the check engine light starts to filcker and then the fuel relay and auto shutdown relay cilck. I am looking for any ideas on where to look or bupassing the auto shutdown.
after my jeep sits and the clicking stops the jeep starts and runs fine the rest of the day
A: Did it maybe occur to you that it might be shutting down for a reason. Your Jeep might be trying to tell you it wants to catch fire. I would suggest you take it to the dealer and have a certified tech. look it over. A lot cheaper than having to replace it.
