Q: 1987 Jeep Wagoneer?
I have a 1987 Jeep Wagoneer, its old but it has been working great until recently. Every time I get it up past 55 mph the thing starts shaking violently until let go of the gas and let it straighten out a little. It hasn't been in any wrecks or anything. Anyone know what is wrong or possibly know how to fix it?

A: Possible problems: tire weight thrown - unbalanced tire tire separated suspension problems (worn shocks) tire loose (have you changed a flat or had brake work done?) There are other htings it could be, but I'd start with these.

Q: I have a 1987 jeep wagoneer it wont go into 4 wheel drive could a sparkplug make it not go into 4 wheel drive?
it blew a couple of sparkplugs a few weeks ago

A: no probably not but your 4 wheel drive could be the vacum stile and you could have a hole in one of the tubes under the dash or its electric on the front axle there is a electric motor on the front side of the axle these go out all the time from lack of use

Q: I have a 1987 jeep wagoneer it gets to 200 * it shuts off and won`t run till cool. what the problem?
Its a 4.0 litre, New: fuel filter, belt, ing. coil, cap, rotor,plugs,wires.alt.,fan clutch, ele. fan, flushed coolant system. the wagoneer still shuts off at 200 degrees and won`t run till it gets to 175 degrees. what else could be wrong with the jeep?????????? thanks

A: Did you replace the thermostat? There's a protective circuit that shuts the engine down if the temp gets too high. It prevents it from getting to the point of damaging the engine and other components. Take it to the shop if you did replace the thermostat.

Q: 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Shaking??
I have an old Jeep grand wagoneer that has been sitting all winter. I charged up the battery and it turned over just fine. Was running smoothe for a minute or so, then it started shaking....then REALLY bad. I shut off the engine for fear it was gonna shake apart. Any ideas????

A: you may have moisture in the gas. drain the tank and put fresh gas in.

Q: Should I buy this Jeep grand wagoneer?
There is a 1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer that this old guy locally has. it has 187,000 miles on it. the rocker panels are rusted, and the rear quarter panels are rusted(not bad). It runs pooring gas straight into the carb, but I think the fuel lines are bad b/c it wont start with fuel in the tank, what else could this be? It has also been sitting for a little over 3 years. Is it a good idea? the interior is also in very good shape.

A: It depends on how you plan to use it. I have an 87 Jeep Comanche Pickup and the 5-spd trans. were not very good from '87 to '89 in any of these Jeeps. (made by Peugeot...yuk!) If you want the Grand as a project and the price is right (i.e. Cheap!) I say go for it. The rust is a turn-off especially if you want to completely restore this vehicle, however if you want something to offroad (4x4?) and just have some fun without a lot of hassle, these old Jeeps are pretty hard to beat . Plenty of new and used parts available. Good Luck!

Q: What kind of new engine will fit in My jeep?
I have a 1987 Jeep Grand wagoneer with a 354 V8. I'm thinking about buying and installing a new engine, but don't know what to drop into it. Not really into fancy modifications, just want a good workhorse to power around the ranch. Any Ideas?

A: well, the classic AMC 360 was a good engine, lived under the hood of practically every wagoneer. if you found one at a scrapyard, gave it a bit of tlc, you'd probably be well off for the long run. my question is, what's wrong with the v8 you have now? as long as it runs fine, that's a pretty decent size. i believe there was also a 401 cu.in. engine in some wagoneers, this would allso be a good option. but, i mean, if you're gonna swap out the v8 you have now... i might reccomend not dropping the 4.0 litre in it (as much as i love the 4.0.. it's my fav. engine) the 4.0 is a 242 cu.in. which is significantly smaller than your current engine. but if you never go on the road much, and just work around a ranch, the 4.0 may be feasible. my advice (assuming your current v8 runs well enough) is to keep your v8, and spend the money on rejeuvinating it, give yourself a nice solid work truck. hope this helps

Q: Whats a good estimate for a jeep?
I own a 1987 jeep wagoneer with 200000 plus miles on it. Has a straight 6 in it and runs good. It is a limited edition model, packed with all power axcessories. I would like to know what I could sell it for??? be serious please

A: I bought my 89 cherokee for 1200 bucks with only 76k on the odometer. it has the 6 cylender as well. bases on that if yours is in great shape, your in the right location(high need for 4 wheel drives)and you have some extras you may get1200- 2500 for it. it is the milage and year that kills it. most people don't know how long they last, and dont want older cars.

Q: i changed the baterry but it still wont start?
i have a jeep cherokee and when i turned the key nothing would happen so i changed the baterry and still nothing would happen, it just wouldt attempt to try and start what else could the problem be. ps it's a 1987 jeep cherrokee wagoneer

A: It could be any number of things. Bad starter. Remove the starter and bring it into almost any major auto parts store. They will test it for you for free. Bad battery cable. Are the terminals corroded? Clean terminals with baking soda and water. If either of the battery cables are warm immediately after you attempt to start, replace the cable. It could be something as simple as a bad ground on the negative battery cable. Bad solenoid. Remove the solenoid and bring it into any major auto parts store. They will test it for you for free. Neutral safety switch. Try moving the gear selector to neutral while starting. With your foot firmly on the brake, move the gear selector through all gears while starting. Bad starter relay. Usually buried deep under the dash. You would need a vehicle specific repair manual to know its location and testing proceedure. Bad fusible link. These are in-line fuses wired directly in the wiring harness. Unsure where they are on a Jeep. On a GM product they are located in the wires near the starter. Replace with same amperage fuses. Make sure your connections are water tight. Not likely it is your alternator or voltage regulator. You said you replaced the battery. A new battery should have cranked the motor even if the alternator was bad. But if you suspect the alternator, remove it and bring it to any major auto parts store. They will test it for you for free. It could be the fuel pump. Could be the fuel pressure regulator. Check the fuse to the fuel pump. When you turn on the ignition, do you hear a humming sound coming from the fuel tank area? Unless you know what you are doing, I recommend having a mencanic look at the fuel pump. Replacement requires removing the fuel tank. Not an easy process on some vehicles. But if the engine doesn't crank, this is not your problem. Did you have the battery tested before you replace it? You may have wasted your money replacing a battery that was not bad. Always have your battery tested before you replace it. It could also be a bad ignition coil. But if it doesn't crank, this is not your problem. It could be a bad engine management computer.

Q: I have a 1987 Jeepgrand wagoneer. I need a vacuum line guide, they are not all connected,?
I just bought the jeep from a guy who rebuilt the engine. He did not put the smog pump back, and he also did not finish the vacuum line system, there are plugs an miss routed lines everywhere
