Q: what type of oil should i put in my 2003 jeep liberty?
i need to get my oil changed. what type of oil should i have the techs put in my 2003 jeep liberty? the manual says what kind but i don't know where it is! is that what the manual says? i can't find it and i need to get it changed and don't want to mess it up! also, is that all i say? 10w40?--winter of course...i called the dealership and they said to use mobil, and told me to bring it in but they charge more than the others. so, if i go to another place, just ask for 10w40 and i'll be ok? haha! thanks! i love this truck and got it a few months ago and know nothing about cars! i hate going to places like this because i always feel that, as a woman and as a woman who knows nothing about what's going on, i won't get what i need or that i'll get ripped off! sorry to sound so crazy about it! just want to get it done before they close today and can't find manual and couldn't find anything online! of course, cust. service is open m-f! thanks for that advice --i will probably take it in tomorrow morning since the place i was going to take it to was crazy busy this morning and is closed now. the dealership is open til 2 but my dad also said not to take it there. he had horrible work done there once. heard that from others. what is your reasoning for not taking it to the dealer? just curious. i think i had the ball joint thing (ha! i am such a girl when it comes to cars, can you tell?) done a couple of months ago. i'll ask my dad though. thanks for the heads up. i'll probably have to post another topic for this but the back window above the tailgate that pops out won't click back into place sometimes and it's frustrating. i have to hit unlock again to get the latch back in place. have you had any problems with that? it's like it stays in open position and doesn't click back down when released and when i close the window, the "claw" is not in a position where it will catch the bar.

A: 5W30, i have a 2003 liberty too. and DON'T take it to the dealership. btw did you know about the recall? the ball joints need replacing. be sure to have this done at no charge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q: 2003 Jeep Liberty, anyway to get better gas mileage?
I am looking to purchase possibly a 2003-2005 Jeep Liberty. I looked online and it states that they only get in the high teens for average driving. Is there anyone out there who has gotten higher than this or are there any tips to getting higher gas mileage for this jeep? I know that with a Jeep I am not going to get great mileage, but what can I do to improve it?

A: I have a 06 Jeep Liberty. I average about 16 miles per gallon. I have found that if I keep my top speed around 60mph I can get around 20 mpg. Sorry that 3.7 just likes to drink that gas.

Q: Would a 2003 Jeep Liberty 2WD work well in snow/ice?
I 'm thinking of buying a 2003 Jeep Liberty and it is rear wheel drive, and i would be using in the winter in icy/snow conditions. Good idea or not?

A: If you want to drive in snow or live where there is that problem, at least to me, it would make more sense to go with the four wheel drive version. To answer your question, it would, with snow tires do as well or slightly better than most cars due to balance. Make sure it has limited slip!!!! Good Luck

Q: What is the probable cause of my 2003 Jeep Liberty's clutch squealing when engaged and then not engaging?
Driving down the street. Clutch is squealing when I engage it, gears go in rough, and I smell what seems to be metal. Clutch fails to engage gears fail to go in. Jeep towed home.

A: Wow thats bad. sorry to hear that The most probable cause of that is that the clutch plate has been worn down and is now, because of excessive heat welded to the flywheel. That happened to me in my Honda. I was told i was a new clutch, but they lied. 4 days later, when i was pulling the transmission, i found all of the metal shavings and the clutch plate worn down to the rivets. Hope that gives you some insight on this.

Q: Where are the fuses located in a 2003 Jeep liberty? Under the dash?
I need to check the fuse for the lighter because I think the fuse is burnt out. I have never used it and have never plugged anything into it except a cell phone over a year ago. Where are the fuses? How can I tell which one goes to the lighter and if it needs replaced, how much do you think it will cost? I cannot see taking my jeep to the dealership if he is going to charge me a fortune to replace a fuse. Maybe I can do it myself.

A: on the far left of the instrument panel. You have to open the drivers door to see it. On the very end of the instrument panel is a small plastic cover. You must pull at the bottom and the cover will pop off. On the back of the cover is a diagram that shows what each fuse is for. Use the little puller to remove the fuse because they are in tight and can be a stinker to pull by any other means. If you have trouble, find a small independent repair shop. they will fix you up for a lot less than the dealer. Maybe even an auto parts store like pep boy, auto zone, advanced auto. Some stores will send a person out and help you. One near me will show you how to change wiper blades, fuses and test your car for fault codes when a light comes on. Good luck. Hope you love your Liberty as much as I love mine.

Q: Whats wrong with the AC on my 2003 Jeep Liberty?
The AC has stopped blowing cool air out. I have noticed when I 1st start the Jeep, the AC is blowing cool then after I have driven about 15 minutes or so, the air conditioner starts blowing hot air out. Its really hot here right now and I need to fix this. Is it something I can do myself or should I take it to the Jeep dealer? Whats wrong with it?

A: could be a bad clutch relay for the compressor.

Q: I drive a 2003 Jeep liberty with 98K mi on it. Should I trade it in for a new one?
I have fixed 1 thing on it since it was brand new it was called a choke sensor. Other than maintenance, it has worked out well for me. I keep the oil changed every 2-3K miles. I went to a jiffy lube and they replaced some kind of fluid, but I am not sure what it was. It cost about $90 to change it. I have changed the tires 2 times. I clean it up every week or 2 and so for its doing pretty good. I am a little worried it will start having problems and I dont want to end up without a vehicle since I drive 25 mi to work and 25 mi home every day. Its a 2003. Should I trade it in? Should I keep it as a 2nd vehicle and buy a new one. What do you thing would be my best decision? Oh yeah, I forgot to say the check engine lite comes on a lot and if I screw the gas cap on tight, it goes off. Oh yeah, I forgot to say the check engine lite comes on a lot and if I screw the gas cap on tight, it goes off.

A: If it runs good and is in good shape like you say I would keep it. Its probably paid for or close to it. Nothing better than not having a $300 car payment every month.

Q: How many miles is too many for a 2003 Jeep Liberty Renegade?
I am wanting to buy an '03 Jeep Liberty Renegade but Im really not for sure how many miles is too much...could someone please let me know

A: 15,000 miles per year is average, so with a 2003, anything over 75,000 would be considered quite high. In addition, 75k miles is not worth buying...you may get a couple of good years out of it yet, but forget about getting a decent trade-in on it.

Q: Does any one know where to get fender flares for a 2003 jeep liberty renegade?
I need both the front and left. I can get them from a dealer but they want almost 400.00 each. my daughter ran the jeep into my shed and smashed them both. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

A: Factory jeep part# 82208159 $287 this package contains all 4 flares, they are the same as the production renegade flares, they fit 2002-2004 model year's, and they come primed ready for paint.

Q: What is clicking sound that seems to be coming from the rear tire of my 2003 Jeep Liberty?
It only happens when I am driving slow, maybe under 10 mph. I took the tire off and tried to determine where it was coming from and it seems to be inside where I can't see. I don't have the tools or know how to take everything apart. Does anyone have any ideas on what this clicking sound is?

A: Have you checked inside the tread all around the tire? Sometimes a stone or piece of asphalt gets jammed in the tread and you don't hear it clicking at high speeds due to road noise.

Q: I need to replace my shocks and struts on my 2003 Jeep Liberty. Do I need a front end alignment?
When I am calling auto repair shops for an estimate, some tell me I need a front end alignment when I replace the shocks (front and rear). While other shops, just price me on replacing the parts. Do I need an alignment? I don't think the vehicle reallly needs an alignment. I just don't want to be cheated by repair shops. Please help.

A: If the struts or shocks, depending on which your vehicle is equipped with, are being replaced on the rear of the vehicle a front end alignment is not necessary. If the repairs are being done on the front of the vehicle, a front end alignment is probably neccessary if struts are replaced as struts are an integeral part of alignment. If the front of the vehicle is equipped with separate springs and shocks, the replacement of just the shocks would not require a front end alignment.

Q: 2003 Jeep Liberty rear gate will not lock. How to fix?
Whether using remote or interior door control, the back gate won't lock, but other 4 doors do. Occasionally, after many attempts and frustration, the rear gate will lock. Don't see anything to do with a fuse for it on the fuse panel cover. Any suggestions as to what to do to fix?

A: There is a lock actuator for each lock if this goes bad then you can't lock or unlock the door..... You can try spraying some silicone on the locks and hinges to loosen and lubricate them Otherwise the actuators have to be replaced You can also check the wire harness where it feeds through the door for a broken wire good luck

Q: where is the jack located on a 2003 jeep liberty?
it is a 4wd ijust bought it.

A: under the right rear pass ager seat

Q: My 2003 Jeep Liberty power mirrors don't work all the time and they are getting worse? Any ideas?

A: If it's just the power mirrors that are not working I would believe it would be in that power mirror switch. Especially if both mirrors are not working.

Q: What type of power steering fluid for 2003 jeep liberty?

A: all liberty's use atf+4. regular power steering fluid will cause damage to the pump and rack seals, has poorer cold weather properties, and doesn't resist foaming as well. most parts stores now have atf+4, and so does wal mart.
