Q: Wondering what is a resonable price on a 2004 Jeep grand cherokee and if they are good vehicles??
I am thinking about buying a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee it is a special edition 4WD, it has 46,000 miles on it, 6cylinder, 4.0L engine, has everything leather seats, sunroof heated seats. Was Just wondering on more opionions on Jeep Cherokee and if this seems like a resonable price before really considering it. My mother has a 1987 Jeep Cherokee and it has over 200,000 miles on it runs great, but that can just be a lucky one out of the bunch. Please tell me what you think it will help me out alot Thank You!!! By the way I forgot to say how much they was offering 16,599.00...

A: You didn't mention the asking price. I'm sure you've checked the blue book. As for the vehicle, it's the best damn vehicle I ever bought. It's got the 4.0L straight six. That engine has been around for over 50 years (carburated in the old days). It's essentially the same as the old Chevy six. As for performance, if my front tires touched it before my bumper, that car would climb it. I chased elk thru the Rockies with my Wagoneer. BTW, I still have my '89 Wagoneer. It's beat up, but it runs like new. It's got over 300,000 miles and I'd still drive it to the west coast (I have several times) from N Y. Buy it and enjoy. And don't be afraid to do the back woods.

Q: How do I replace the expansion valve on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with a straight 6 cyl. motor. I need to replace the expansion valve on the A/C system. Is this something I can do myself, or should I take it to the mechanic? any help would be appreciated.

A: How do you know you need the expansion valve? It is something you can do yourself, however you will need the refridgerant removed from the system before doing so, and then you will need it evacuated and recharged when done. Simply follow the lines under the hood to the firewall. The expansion valve is bolted there between the lines and the evaporator (which commonly fails on these).

Q: Rain water leaks in 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I bought a used 2004 Grand Cherokee for my son and we are having difficulty finding a rain water leak. Mainly the passenger side front floor is wet after heavy rains. I had the AC condensate drain checked and it is clear. It looks to me that it may be wicking back up under the threshhold and seeping into the carpet. Any help?

A: Several places it could be coming from...so here's what we have found on our older cherokees... AC drain, plugs very frequently-needs a high pressure air blast from underneath and run a wire coat hanger up, then do it again. Cold air vents for inside air-water can fill up the air hoses under the dash. Drain plug (rubber plug painted over) under neath your floor mats-there's 3 or 4 just in each passenger compartment Door seal-top or forward of door-not sealing to the frame. Water leaks down the frame and wicks in. Take a roll of paper towels, cut each sheet into 3" strip and tape them all down the door frame-close door tightly, go through a carwash or just take a garden hose to it like crazy-have someone inside watch for the wet towel to appear. This one was a real pain to find...a weld in the corner of the front roof, just behind the windshield. Was sealed and painted over, but the weld wasn't solid and water could get into it when the 'gutter' track on the roof was overflowing with water. It came in under the paint, ran down the inside roof under the roof liner to the windshield gasket, then down the side of the window inside the pillar trim-came out down on the foot rest area of the passenger compartment. THAT took some detective work to find! Your best bet is to start with a perfectly dry vehicle, pull the carpets and floor liner out, remove the pillar cover and if you can without destroying it, pull back the 'headliner' over the seats (or save that till absolute last) Put in the paper towels around the door-close it up with someone inside-and attack it with a hose. Concentrate on one area at a time....and as soon as they see water drops or leak, have them put their finger on and trace it back to where it is coming in. With luck, you may only need a tube of tub sealer (clear) to fix it and not have to replace the windshield or door gasket. If it's the door gasket, see if the door is out of alignment to the frame. On an 04 it should not be compressed flat yet.

Q: My 2004 jeep Grand Cherokee engine won't start even after starter was replaced. Battery is good. Any advice?
I went down the street to run a quick errand. When I got back into the jeep, it wouldn't start. I just had the starter replaced (thank goodness I had the extended warranty). The battery is good & I just had the spark plugs replaced. The jeep doesn't do well when the engine is cut off for less than 10 min. It starts everytime after is has been sitting for about an hour. Has anyone had a similar experience?

A: My 4.0L I6 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) is a little hard to start if it has been off for less than 10 minutes. It does start, but it idles rough for a few seconds. I never had this with any other Jeep with the 4.0L I6 engine. I changed the CCV hoses and it seems to start easier. I noticed it only does this when the engine is hot and it is hot outside. ADDITIONAL DETAILS! There was a TSB for it: NHTSA 10003986

Q: Will a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ I6 tow a boat that weighs around 2000 lbs?
I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with an inline 6 without the towing package. I am adding a class 3 hitch and a transmission cooler. How will this tow a boat that weighs a little over 2000 lbs?

A: Do not tow while in 4x4 low, except for getting off the ramp if needed. The I6 is a strong motor with lots of low-end torque, and should have no issues towing 2000# for short trips. However if you value the life of your 42RE transmission you should add an auxiliary transmission cooler. Your ATF does go through the radiator for some protection -Aux cooler is added downstream of the radiator for additional cooling. Pls consider Class IV/V hitch. Issue with Class II/III is it only uses 4 bolts where higher Class will use 6 bolts -remember that's not frame but unibody under a Jeep. edit: Assuming 2000# is with trailer, gas & equipment.

Q: I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and suddenly with no warning the powered windows will not come down ?
No power is coming to the drivers side control panel. Windows will not work, outside mirrors will not work, interior lights stay on after vehicle is shut off, dash lights are very dim. Checked all relays and fuses found all working properly. Does anyone have any suggestions.

A: It sounds like the bundle of wires that go from the A pillar on the body, through a "tunnel" into the drivers door has a short. Nasty job sometimes. All the wires need to be unbundled and the short located. I'm surprised some fuse or circuit breaker hasn't tripped though. You can get access to this bundle, usually through the kick panel in the driver's footwell and just move those wires around in the bundle carefully and see if the power returns even intermittently. Good luck. Nasty job.

Q: what is the best tire that i can put on my 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo?

Q: What color rims should I put on my Midnight Blue 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I don't want chrome rims. It is too flashy. I was wondering if black would go with the blue? The blue paint is really a rough color to work that. Any Suggestions?

A: recommend machined finish with black trim, perhaps like this: http://www.wheelsnext.com/images/wheels/large/AM_IMPERIAL_V1_MB_2_W.jpg or brushed finish with black trim http://www.wheelsnext.com/images/wheels/large/mkw_a524_mb_2_W.jpg http://www.wheelsnext.com/images/wheels/large/gfg_medellin_mb_2_W.jpg this company has 14 pages of rims that fit your vehicle...., http://www.wheelsnext.com/default-home-packages-action-dspSearchVehicleWheels-startrow-201-carmake-20-carmodel-256-caryear-2004-WHEELSSIZES-20.htm these are all highest quality expensive rims...but if you prefer you do not have to buy here, just nail down the look then search out cheaper alternative (ebay, craigslist, other online sellers). 20"s will look best mounted with low profile (preferably ZR rated) tires ...

Q: How much does a 60,000 mile service cost for 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee? And what does it involve?
I'm almost due for a check-in and this is my first time every doing a 60,000 service, I don't want to get screwed, so I want to have some idea what I'm talking about! Thanks.

A: first of all do you have the owners manual? If you do it will tell you under the maint's section what all is needed to be looked at, what needs to be changed, I.E. oil, trans-fluids, so on an so on. Next things to be looked at how bad are they worn, and DO THEY REALLY NEED TO BE CHANGED AT THIS TIME? how do these worn parts compare to new parts are they worn a 1/4 or 1/2 or 3/4's of the way as to newer parts. As for your owners manual if you don't have or can not find you can go to almost any auto parts store to buy a Haynes or Chilton's manual on that veh which should tell you pretty much what you need to know as far as cost we all know it will depend on were you take your veh so if you don't have the time or your just not sure what to do find a shop close to home or work ask friends where they would take their veh.only a few opinions too many well just confuse you.

Q: Adjust Headlight 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Anyone know if the headlamps in the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees are adjustable? I know the headlights pop out of the frame to replace the bulbs, but is there a way to adjust the bulbs / beams without removing the headlights from the car?

A: YEP they are adjustable. Check your owners manual or any repair manual. There ate two adjustments one for vertical movement and another for horizontal movement. Move your vehicle to about 6-8 feet from any flat surface, like a garage door, turn the lights on and adjust to specifications. Use the flat surface to 'see' which way your adjustments are going.

Q: How do you replace a tail light (brake) bulb on a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I opened the liftgate and removed the two phillips head screws from the side of the housing, however I can't move the light casing to get in and change the bulb.

A: You will most likely not find an interior access to the lights ,,, you must remove the screws on the outside and remove the casing to get to the bulbs ... Most yrs did not have any way of gaining access from the inside ... i'm not sure if the owners manual shows this feature but it would be great to have a shop manual or at the very least a Haynes or Chiltons manual for reference... Good Luck
