Q: How much of a lift can I put on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport without upgrading the gears and drivetrain?
I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport and I want to put a lift on it and maybe some boggers, but I want to keep the most of it stock. How would I go about lift it and how much of a lift could I get without getting different gears and drivetrain?
A: Well your jeep is equipped with a 8.25 Chrysler rearend and a Dana 30 up front with 355 gear stock. A 33" tire will be ok for a while but will put alot of stress on your transfercase, transmission, axles and u joints and will wear them out quickly. If you wan to stick with the stock gear i wouldnt recommend anything larger than a 31" maybe just maybe a 32", but 31 would probably be your choice because bigger than that will ruin your gas milage VERY BAD. You can clear 31" tires with a 3" lift perfectly and will offroad great. Hope this helps
Q: Can anyone tell me where the radiator module located on a 2001 jeep cherokee?
I need to install a radiator module on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was hoping someone could tell me where this piece is located or how I could find out where this piece is located. Thank you for your time and help.
A: Not sure I've ever heard of a Radiator Module, and I've been a certified mechanic for decades... who told you this, and what is it referring to?
Q: What is the maximum weight pull for a 2001 jeep cherokee?
I have a 2001 jeep cherokee and i need to know the tongue weight that it will pull. I own a horse but i need to pick it up and i figured since i will be doing shows i need a trailer. so i need one but i dont know the maximum weight it can pull. If someone can tell where i can find it that would help to or if u know the answer that would help to. PLEASE and thank you
A: Find out what the weight of the trailer and horse combined is going to be. Even though the manufacturers says 5000 lb is atainable, it is with a properly equipped cherokee with evenly distributed load.
You need to check with a mechanic and see if your Cherokee is set up properly for towing. If it came from the factory with a tow package it should have a heavy duty transmission cooler and heaver duty shocks and an oversize radiator.
Also keep in mind that a cherokee is a narrow tracked vehicle. High winds can make it difficult to control with several thousand pounds behind it. Size and width of trailer will make a huge difference as well. Think of the tail wagging the dog.
If its short trips and/ or the trailer is light and small, then it shouldn't be an issue.
Q: How much would someone pay for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
2001 Jeep Cherokee,
26,000 miles
really good condition
A: 3,000 if its in good condition.
Q: Can I jump start a 2001 Jeep Cherokee without damaging any internal electronic parts?
My Jeep Cherokee won't start and whenever I try to open it through the romote control, try to turn the lights on, try to turn the ignition on etc. it simply won't work.
I was thinking of jump starting it, but was afraid it might damage any internal processors or other electronics. Is it safe to proceed with jump starting?
I have a 2001 make Jeep Cherokee.
Thank you very much.
A: Shure it is ok to jump start a jeep here is how
Put postive to postive on battery connect 1 negitive to the battery on 1 car and on the jeep put it to the engine block, not the battery neg post
Start the car. do not start the jeep. Let the car run for say 5 minets. After that try to start the jeep..
it should start if not, wait again another 5 minets.
Have the alt output checked to see if it is charging the battery.
NOTE. DO NOT REMOVE THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE ON THE JEEP TO SEE IF IF THE ALT IS CHARGING. IF YOU DO WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING IT CAN DAMAGE THE JEEPS COMPUTER.
Thank you for your question
Q: 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee has clicking sound near inside fuse box without trying to start it.?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that occasionally will click when the car is turned off and the keys are NOT in the ignition. The clicking occurs even then whe door is closed and when overhead pilot light is turned on it flashes with the clikcing sound. When you put the key in the clicks slow down and when you tyurn it over they stop - then the clicking comes form the engine area. It is a constant clicking sound which when occurs the car is not operable - but only occurs occasionally. Recently it has been more and more frequent. Anyone else expereince this? If so what did you do? HELP!!
Thank you in advance!
A: sounds like a relay going. it obviously controlls something, try isolating it and unplugging it to se what then doen't work, or check with a wiring diagram to see what it controlls
Q: Can you put 31 inch tires on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
Can you put 31 inch tires on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee? My husband has some from his Jeep Wrangler and wanted to put them on the cherokee he is getting soon, but they seem to big..
A: 31"s are too big on a stock Cherokee, but with a 2" lift kit, they will fit perfectly. A stock Cherokee has 28" wheels. 31"s add 1.5" above the axle, so a 2" lift kit will pretty much preserve the same wheel-to-wheel opening ratio.
Q: Where do i find the diagnostic codes on a 2001 jeep cherokee?
Does anyone know how to check the diagnostic codes on a jeep cherokee? I dont have a digital odometer. does anyone recomeend a website to find this information out?
A: If you don't have the digital odometer (really?? on a 2001?) then you will need to have the codes read by someone with a code reader.
Autozone and Checker will do it for free...The plug should be under the dash.
Q: How to put a serpentine fan belt on a Jeep Cherokee 2001?
Need to know info on how to put a serpentine fan belt back onto a Jeep cherokee 2001. Having difficulty with this.
A: There should be a diagram under the hood somewhere. It could be that it was damaged or taken off for some reason. Another way is if you could borrow a maintenance manual or buy one.
One more way is this; just figure it out. If the pulley is smooth, it contacts the back side or smooth side of the belt. If the pulley has ridges or grooves, it contacts the grooved side of the belt. The belt will run on at least 1/2 the circumference of the pulley. You can just look at the pulleys keeping these little rules in mind and follow the trail of the belt over and under and around the pulleys. When you find the path, put the belt on it and try it.
This way is a little harder but it works because the belt will only fit one way. If you run it the wrong direction, it will not fit. Make sure the grooved side meets the groove side of the pulley and is seated correctly before starting the engine.
Q: How do I burn a CD so that it will play on an old CD player, such as in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee?
When I burn songs onto CD-R from I-Tunes or Windows Media Player, the CD plays on newer CD players or DVD players, but not in my car or on my old Pioneer Boom Box. Is there a trick to CD burn settings to enable them to play on all players? In my 2001 Jeep CD player (2001 seems like relatively new enough to play burned CDs to me), I get an "Err Disc" message, and it spits the CD back out. Sometimes it searches for the beginning of the song for 5-10 minutes, and sometimes it actually does start playing. Does anyone else have this problem?
Hmmm ... Roxio costs $80. The .WAV burning sounded promising but didn't work. My Pioneer CD player is from 1995. .WAV CD had same problem on my 2001 Jeep.
A: At first I was gong to recommend that you use CD-R disks, but I see that's what you're using. I would check to make sure that the files you are putting on your disks is in .WAV format and not mp3 format. Newer players might play the disks in the defalt format your computer is using. You have to make sure that you're using the .wav file format.
Q: How can I cover my 2001 jeep Cherokee alternator?
I take my jeep in the off roading and the alternator is mounted very low and is causing problems as it fills with mud/water etc. Need any solutions.
A: Doesn't jeep have a splash guard under the engine or cheap o Chrysler tried to cut corners in that? Anyway fabricate your own plastic splash guard if nothing is available. Buy some other similar suv plastic and make new holes to match plastic clips.
Q: How do you replace a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee cooling fan?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I believe the electric cooling fan is bad. How do you get it out without disassembling the entire front of the car?
A: the temp sensors do not control the fan. the fan is controlled by a pulse wifdth modulated realy under the right headlamp. the engine controller directly controls the relay looking at coolant temp, a/c input, a/c pressure, and trans temp. first check your fuse. it its good, unplug the fan connector. its about 1/2 way donw the shroud on the right side. 2 wires. jump the fan side of the connector, black to ground, green to voltage. the motor should run. if it doesn't you probably need a relay. to get to teh relay you have to remove the front bumper cover and the relay is bolted to the sheet metal under the right headlamp. its mounted here to dissipate the high heat. if you need to remove the fan, remove the 4 10mm bolts that hold the fan shroud to the radiator support. for the bottom left bolt get it from underneath with about 4 feet of extension and a 1/4 inch drive 10mm swivel. you can remove the top radiator hose for more clearace, but hte assembly will come out if you don't. once the bolts are out and you have it unplugged, take it straight up and out. there are alot of things to work around, and the plastic is fragile. once the shroud is out, remove the 3 bolts that hold the fan to the shroud to remove the fan assembly. i would recommend seeing your dealer before you start any of this. many grand cherokees with both 4.0 and 4.7 engines had a recall come out last year for the fan motor.
Q: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Front wheel lugnuts hot to the touch, why??
I just bought a 2001 Jeep cherokee and after driving around a bit, noticed that the front wheels at the centers or lugnuts was extremely hot to the touch. What could be causing this?? Thanks, Jon
A: Bad wheel bearing or the brake caliper is not releasing. Usually, if either is a problem, you will experience sluggish acceleration (caliper) or the vehicle will pull to that side (bearing) when the brakes are applied.
Happy Trails!
Q: Will a factory stereo from a 2001 Jeep Cherokee fit in a 2000 Jeep Wrangler?
I tried installing myself a factory stereo from a 2001 Jeep Cherokee into my 2000 Jeep Wrangler but it didn't work. The plugs all matched up, but the system never came on. Also, when I plugged in the large grey plug into the back it started making a clicking noise, similar to the sound of a blinker. Can anyone give me info. about this? Thanks!
A: Here's the wiring code for jeep vehicles compare it to your model and the radio from the 2001.

Q: How much does it cost to replace an engine on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
The engine knocks pretty bad when I first start the car. It is a low pitched knock at first then turns to a higher pitched knock and it is intermitent.
A: Engine knocking doesn't always merit replacement. It should be diagnosed to a specific problem first, and that fixed.
I have a '90 with 165k miles that started knocking. It turned out to be a collasped lifter caused by a slight head gasket leak getting antifreeze in the oil. It would clog up the lifter.
I sealed the coolant system, the knock is gone, and I don't plan on replacing the engine any time soon. It's fixed and will last another 80,000 miles.
In the worst case, engine replacements will run $2500 to $3000 with labor. Get three repair shops opinion on what the cause is before you pay someone to pull what may be a perfectly good engine.
