Q: 2000 Jeep Cherokee engine start problem?
I've had this problem with a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Laredo.
Engine won't start up until the 2nd or 3rd start during a cold start (ie. the mornings or after a long period of being off).
I haven't checked for anything yet, so I am looking for a suggestion on where to begin (temp sensor, fuel pump, starter?).
It seems as if its some kind of problem with a temp sensor since it only happens on cold starts, but it works fine when engine is warm.
Please advise. Thanks.
A: probably not a temp sensor
does the starter drag a little? it starter has to be able to turn the motor a certain rpm to start
Q: What known problems does the 2000 Jeep cherokee classic?
Just wondering if anyone ever owned a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic and what problems they had when over 100,000 miles.?
The engine is an inline 6 with an Automatic Transmission.
A: We own a 2001 Cherokee Limited. From a drivetrain point of view it's identicle to your subject vehicle (unless you're 4WD).
We purchased used with approx 56K miles. Now has approx 120K. No drivetrain problems.
Did have to replace the TPS (throttle position sensor) a few thousand miles ago.
AC compressor clutch stopped working last year and I replaced entire compressor myself. Then about 6 months ago system began leaking refrigerant (nearly complete loss overnight). Just recently replaced the AC evaporator (major PAIN but saved about $1500 over having a repair shop do it) and fixed A/C once again.
Heated seats weren't working when I got the vehicle but I fixed both of those myself and they're still working. Cruise indicator bulb went out last year but cruise still works. (Should have changed it while I had the dash apart for the AC evaporator replacement but forgot)
I replaced water pump recently but it wasn't leaking- being over 100K I figured it was due so I made a pre-emptive repair! That was a little more of a pain than it should have been.
Did have to replace idler pully on serpentine belt system back in late 2005.
Very reliable engine and have heard transmission (AW4) is as well. Even though short, vehicle does excellet job of towing my 6x12 utility trailer moderately loaded.
Engine drips oil a little. Just enough to leave spots on the driveway but not enough to need adding between changes.
Hope this helps answer your questions.
Q: Where can I get a center cap for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
I need a center cap for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport's driver side front tire.
The old one was loose and must've fallen off in transit.
The wheels on the car are the originals.
Anyone know where I can find and affordable replacement?
A: You can try a website called http://www.uneedapart.com. They will put out your request to hundreds of salvage yards online who can provide you with good prices on used center caps.

Q: What is the Coolant System Capacity for a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport?
My car has been having an overheating problem, and I'm sure the thing was near bone dry this morning. I got enough coolant into the system to cool it down, but I need to make sure it is filled. I purchased 3 gallons of coolant today.
How much coolant does a 4.0 Liter, 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport hold?
A: From completely dry, the 4.0 will hold 15 quarts (3 and 3/4 gallons)
From the factory service manual:
REFILLING COOLING SYSTEM-4.0L ENGINE
1. Tighten the radiator draincock and the cylinder block drain plug(s) (if removed).
2. Fill system using a 50/50 mixture of ethylene glycol antifreeze and low mineral content water. Fill radiator to top and install radiator cap. Add sufficient coolant to the reserve/overflow tank to raise level to FULL mark.
3. With heater control unit in the HEAT position, operate engine with radiator cap in place.
4. After engine has reached normal operating temperature, shut engine off and allow it to cool. When engine is cooling down, coolant will be drawn into the radiator from the reserve/overflow tank.
5. Add coolant to reserve/overflow tank as necessary. Only add coolant to the reserve/overflow tank when the engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine will be higher due to thermal expansion. To purge the cooling system of all air, this heat up/cool down cycle (adding coolant to cold engine) must be performed three times. Add necessary coolant to raise tank level to the FULL mark after each cool down period.
Q: how do you install piaa lights for a 2000 jeep Cherokee sport?
i just got a 2000 jeep Cherokee from my girlfriends dad and the headlights suck so i wanted to replace them with the piaa extreme white bulbs. But when i pulled the headlight assembly out it was all sealed....
Is there a way to upgrade the bulbs or am i stuck with those?
A: You can replace the stock headlights to the non sealed type. While you are there upgrading the wiring would be advised. Infact it would help the stock headlights as well.

Q: is there a middle seatbelt kit for the back seat, for a 2000 jeep cherokee laredao?
I have a 2000 Jeep cherokee laredo and i want to put my son's booster seat in the middle instead of the outside. i need a shoulder harness for the seatbelt. is that possible?
A: In most state seatbelt kits cannot be used to secure a carseat or a booster seat even with the shoulder strap.. they are not an original part of the automobile and are therefore not guaranteed to hold in an accident.
Q: What is the Highway and City gas mileage of a 2000 jeep cherokee?

Q: 2000 Jeep Cherokee - Instrument Cluster Not Working At All?
I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and the instrument panel gauges completely quit working. The speedometer, oil pressure gauge, and temperature gauge are all out. I looked for the fuse in the fuse panel but I only see a "instrument cluster dimmer" fuse in my fuse diagram. Any ideas?
A: check under the hood there is another fuse box to the right side .
Q: how much would it cost to have my 2000 jeep cherokee sport lifted?
How much would it cost to have a lift installed on my jeep cherokee sport.
I'd like to add about 3 inches in order to put some 33inch tires on.
A: 3" wont clear 33"s unless you plan on hacking the fenders. Which I doubt since you are asking about the cost to have someone else install your lift. 3" will only clear 31"s. You will need a 4.5-5" lift to clear 33"s.
Q: My 2000 Jeep Cherokee heated seats stopped working, how much to replace?
Another person asked a question about their 2000 Jeep Cherokee heated seats that quit working. Mine, too (not the first time). It's not a fuse, it's not an electrical problem. They heating elements are bad. I have learned that the company who made the heating components has gone out of business (surprise!) and they are no longer made. I have an extended warranty and want to make a claim for the depreciation in value. Anyone have any information on the cost of these seats? I had one person tell me $3,000 per. Looking for information. Thanks.
A: Its not like only those elements will work. You can put in a different type if you can find one that fits the seat. shouldnt be that hard.
Q: jeep grand cherokee 2000 How do i get the Power Cord Through the firewall?
I have a 2000 jeep grand cherokee and i want to install an amp i need to get the powercord through the firewall however... and there seems to be no easy way unless im just not looking in the right spot .. can anyone help..
A: I have a 1999 Dodge ram 1500 and was lucky enough to route my wires right along with the dash wires straight towards the battery, if thats to difficult I agree just find a suitable spot to drill one, preferably as straight to the battery as you can get to use the least amount of wire.
My wires do touch some metal but it doesn't affect them at all, also when installing your fuse put it as close to the battery as possible without touching it.
Q: Where is the CD Player on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited?
I have recently bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee and need to know where the CD Player is. When I saw it has a Tape deck so I assumed that it didnt have a CD player but it will say "NO Disk" when I change the Audio.
A: if you do not see a cd slot on the deck you do not have one. check the trunk (just in case) for a cd changer.
good luck with the GC this year model had lots of issues. :(
Q: Can a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic hold a full size spare on the inside back end mount?
Inside the jeep, in the back end, there is a mount for a spare tire. It has a small spare on it. Can it hold a full size?
A: The mount on the inside on the drivers side, mounted below the window will hold atleast a 30x9.50x15, but have heard of people fitting 31"s but it maybe a bit snug. I dont have the complete mount so my 30" spare is laying in the rear. I plan on building a tool box around/over it so everything will be concealled and secured.
Q: how to update my 2000 jeep cherokee grill to the jeep 2500 model?
i noticed that the latest update form china has a cool looking grill called the jeep 2500. it looks like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Chinajeep.jpg
is it possible to get that updated grill and place it onto my 2000 model?
A: Yep it is, but you have to get the parts from China and the more front clips you buy the better it is.. So you would need to find a group of XJ owners looking to also upgrade..
