Q: Jeep Cherokee?
I have a 93 jeep grand cherokee laredo with tranny problems. In order to drive it I have to put at least two quarts of trans fluid a day. I was wondering where possibly is it leaking from because it leaks the most in reverse, but it also leaks in any gear. (How much estimating do you think it will cost me?) (6.0cyc,4.0ltengine)
A: It really is hard to say where it is leaking from, you will have to get down there and visually inspect it while the car is running IN PARK! If you are lucky, it is leaking from the transmission pan, which is a low cost fix. How many miles are on it? It may be leaking from the rear or front main, or both. If this is the case, it is worth taking it to a transmission shop and having them pull it and rebuild it with a shift kit. If it is high in miles, it would really suck to have them pull it and put a new seal in it, only to have them pull it again in a day, a week, a month ect when the transmission wont shift. Good luck!
Q: What is the difference between a Jeep cherokee and Jeep XJ?
I own a 1999 Jeep cherokee sport. I am wanting to get a suspension lift, and I think I have settled on 3inches. BUT wherever I look, some places say Cherokee XJ, while others only say Cherokee, and some say both. I thought they were the same. If not, how do you tell the difference?
A: You have an XJ Cherokee. XJ is just the more specific code for the body/chassis style. It's important because there were also XJ Grand Wagoneers for a while. Other than the wood paneling and upgraded trim, they were identical to an XJ Cherokee.
Also, there were Cherokees prior to the XJ referred to as FSJ (full size jeep) Cherokees that are not compatible in any way with your XJ.
Q: How to put up windows in jeep cherokee 1995?
I have a Jeep Cherokee 1995 model and the front two [electric] windows are stuck open. They are open about 4 inches and will not go up. When I hold the button up there is no sound. None of the windows will go either up or down. We have had to use a locksmith a couple of times- if that would have any effect? What other problems, besides a fuse problem, could there be and how could they be fixed, without taking it to a shop, if possible?
A: Have one of these and had that problem last year, It is the switch panel on the driver door it took alot of time and checking to run down the problem but that was it and later found that is a common problem in 95 models,The panel is plugged in by several plugs easy to change out i found my on a junker i payed 15 dollars for it good luck
Q: My Jeep Cherokee's hood pull within the car is broken. How much will it cost to replace this piece?
My Jeep Cherokee's hood pull within the car is broken. How much will it cost to replace this piece? Right now they is a wire that is sticking out that you have to pull in order to pop the hood.
A: Probably $125.00 parts and labor. You might try and find a used cable assembly from a wrecked low mileage Jeep Cherokee at a salvage yard and diy to save some money.
Q: Is it possible to relace a jeep cherokee drive chain on NP249 with removing the transfer case?
Hello, I have a 95 jeep grand cherokee with an NP249 "quadra-trak" transfer case. Is it possible to access and replace the drive chain without removing the case from the Jeep? I can't pull the extension housing off because it is held in place by a locking ring which I doubt I can access while it is still on the vechicle. Thanks!
A: No!
Q: What is the loudest exhaust on a '99 jeep cherokee sport?
I am wondering what the loudest possible setup for a jeep cherokee sport would be.
A: loudest possible "legal" set up would be extractors to a 2 1/2 or 3 inch pipe straight through with a medium sized cannon or something similar on the end
Q: would an older jeep cherokee be good for a young college student?
I have a 94 grand prix, and it is a hunk of junk. I thought about restoring it, but I think after college I am going to buy something else. I like trucks, jeep cherokee's, and older muscle cars. What time of model and year would be a good investment, low repair but I live in east tennesse so I want it to be able to off road well. Suggestions?
A: Jeep Cherokee will be a good one. Junk yard parts are plentyful, and the 4.0 motor is bullet proof. Taken care of with the usual care, they will last to 300,000 miles. The tranny's are also pretty stout unless you start lifting it and going with bigger tires. All of those upgrades put added stress on the drive train.
Just get one, and drive it and worry about the cool upgrades AFTER you graduate.
Stay with '93 and newer due to changes in the ignition and fuel systems. Get one with a 4.0 if you can afford it, though the 2.5L could be had for a song, they are gutless on the highway, but decent for around town and even offroading when geared properly.
I just bought a '94 with the 4.0 with 186,000 miles on it back in February for $1400. I put about $1000 into it making it road worthy...new tires, brakes, rear springs, (4) new shocks, tranny flush/fill & adjust, oil change, starter and battery, and a stereo upgrade. It runs like a top. No smoke, doesn't use oil and gets decent gas mileage and I fully expect to get 300,000 miles out of it.

Q: My 99' Jeep Cherokee will only start if I wiggle the positive battery cable?
I 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport was randomly not starting when turned off. However, I replaced the batter cable connectors and had the terminals cleaned. Now, this only happens first thing in the morning, the Jeep won't start in the morning (1st start) unless I move the positive cable around just a little bit. After moving it just a little bit, the car starts fine the rest of the day.
Could this be a bad negative or positive cable issue?
A: I'd echo what others have said, that you have corrosion on the battery cable. I personally don't like pouring coke on everything (I don't like sticky film on my battery attracting dust). Just take off both battery cables, and lightly run sand paper over the terminals, and the inside of the clamps.
If you've taken the battery out of the vehicle several times you may have a break in the terminal wires. In that case you'd need to cut off the current terminal clamps, strip back the wire, and add new clamps (from your local parts store).
Q: What could the problems be if Jeep Cherokee was smoking and green liquid was coming out of radiator?
My daughter was driving to school this morning in a 1994 Grand Jeep Cherokee (?) Comanche (?). She said green liquid was coming out of the car and it was smoking. What are the best and worst case possibilities and related costs? Any suggestions on the cheapest way to repair this? What about driving it home or to a repair shop? One repair guy told me the engine could be ruined. Another guy told me to turn on the heater, open the windows, and watch the heat guage. Don't have a lot of money. Thanks!
A: a radiator, a radiator hose, or a water pump could have failed. do not drive the vehicle have it towed to a repair shop and have them give you an estimate on what it will cost to repair.
Q: Does a 1996 Jeep Cherokee come equipped with mudflaps?
In Montana, the law states that all vehicles must be equipped with fenders, splash aprons or mudflaps. A person was pulled over for failing to have mudflaps on his 1996 Jeep Cherokee. I need to know whether the 1996 Jeep Cherokee came factory-equipped with mudflaps. In the alternative, is the fender of the 1996 Jeep Cherokee more than 20 inches off the ground?
A: Mudflaps were an optional accesory available from the dealer, but were not standard.
Is what part of the fender more than 20 inches? The top, yes. The bottom, no.
Q: What the difference between overland and normal jeep cherokee?
Is it worth paying extra money for overland jeep cherokee, what's the specs? Will it be a better feature when I sell the car in years to come?
A: You would need to compare all the statistics in the brochures to find out for sure, but I would go for the overland version as it will hold its value better, and preform better when off roading.
Also the new freelander is fantastic...
Q: What could be wrong with my 97 Jeep grand cherokee when it makes the terrible noise?

Q: How much is my non-working 96 Jeep Cherokee worth?
I have a 96 Jeep Cherokee Classic that is not in working condition. It has over 200K miles. It just one day stopped working (won't turn on) and I'm not willing to spend anymore money on it. I'm planning on donating it, but someone at my complex just asked to buy it. Please let me know what you think. Either way, this Jeep is going.
A: Hmm, i'd say, at first, maybe 1000? That may seem like much, but it could just be a problem with the starter...
But, if you were just gonna donate, and 1000 was too much for him, I'd say at least no less than 500.
